The bomb fell in 1967. You wake up in 1989, deep under the Municipal Building. Manhattan has a new name now.

WHAT'S NEW

VIGIL · FIELD LOG

Faces in the Crowd

  • Maniacs are far more varied: three times as many looks, and you can tell who they were before '67 by what's left of their clothes: office workers with loosened ties, laborers, hospital patients, soldiers, doormen in brass buttons, women in torn housedresses.
  • More body shapes, heights and greying hair among them.

The Maniacs

  • New enemy: Maniacs. Survivors whose minds the radiation burned out, they sprint, lunge and swarm, and they attack anything that moves: you, raiders, soldiers and animals alike. Just never each other.
  • Watch for the Maniac Bruiser, a bigger, heavier Maniac that holds the worst corners of the city.
  • Times Square's Neon is a town of ordinary survivors: the people who burned their census cards in '67 and never left.
  • Rewritten conversations, notes and radio news across the city to match.
  • Your saves carry over.

Clearer Streets

  • Fixed brick walls on some buildings (Chinatown, the Tombs, the Waldorf, Penn Station and others) that showed a grid of tiny rooms up close and a glittery sparkle from a distance. Real windows still show the rooms behind them.
  • The General Post Office on 8th Avenue has its open forecourt back: the two buildings that crowded its steps are gone.

Main Street, Reopened

  • The city's billboards, storefronts and shelves are full of new names: Liberty Jetliner, Pizza Galaxy, Burger Brigade, LONLY televisions, Eagle Motors, Freedom Flakes, Chocolate Zeppelin, Super Sergeant comics and more.
  • Forever Franks carts are back on the streets, and Hi-Octane Harry's gas stations stand on the West Village waterfront and the East River.
  • Herald Square's great department store is now Sterling's, and Bellamy's still dresses uptown.
  • New collectible: the 16 Keys to the City. Bring them home to Gracie Mansion and open the Mayor's sealed vault.
  • World's Fair Medallions now go to Gideon Tarbell, the Fair's old curator on Grand Central's balcony, for milestone rewards and a vault of his own.
  • Rally Tonic heals you over a few seconds (with a little wobble), and Prussian Blue capsules flush radiation over a minute.
  • Thunderstorms roll over Manhattan: heavy rain, lightning and thunder.
  • Smoother loading screen with plain-English progress ("Raising the skyline", "Digging the subway"…).
  • Cleaner minimap.
  • Your saves carry over: renamed items, places and progress convert automatically.

The Long Way Home

  • A new main story: 35 quests and a finale with three endings, from the cryo unit under the Municipal Building to something hidden beneath Grand Central.
  • New faces across the city, including a young fighter who goes by Flint, and a cult that keeps its lamps burning.
  • New title screen and logo, with the city's landmarks in the background.
  • New loading screen: watch the city come together system by system. Continue now tells you where you're headed.
  • Redesigned HUD and VIGIL goggles in VIGIL blue and warning red.
  • 16 new weapons, including the Gyrojet Pistol and Carbine, the Recoilless Rifle, the MAT-49, the Rivet Gun, the Siren Horn, the Fire Axe, the Third-Rail Shoe and the Riot Gas Grenade. Your existing gear carries over.
  • A single, consistent colour grade for the whole city.
  • Smoother frame rate with the goggles open.
  • Fixed a character being duplicated in the background, which slowed the game down over time.
  • Many quest, character and lock fixes.

Welcome to New Rad City

  • March 5, 1967: the bomb fell north of Manhattan. You are Eli Wayte, a Project Long Winter volunteer, and you wake up in 1989.
  • Your VIGIL goggles are your menu: quest log, map, notes, codes and radio, projected over what you see.
  • Locked doors, safes and terminals open with keys and codes you find in the city.
  • Every quest was played through from start to finish before release.
  • Found a bug? Press F8 in the game (or P → Report a Bug). A screenshot is attached automatically.
